32 BROADWAY- THE JENKINS BUILDING Historical renovation of existing building in downtown Asheville to mixed use occupancy. Project team: Robert Camille, Jr., Principal Architect in
charge Project description: Historic preservation/ rehabilitation of the existing building to mixed use occupancy. The Jenkins building was built in downtown Asheville in 1912. At one point the building served as a boarding house, then later became a grocery store, and fell into disrepair by the 1970's. In 1987 a fire gutted the then-abandoned building. Camille-Alberice Architects, P.A. bought the burned-out shell in 1995, with intentions to renovate it into mixed-use occupancy. The ground floor of the renovated building now houses a graphic design firm as well as a popular restaurant, The Over Easy Cafe. The second floor includes four custom condominiums and a a hair styling salon. The third floor consists of three unique condominiums. The ground floor of the building housed the offices of Camille-Alberice Architects, P.A. until we moved in August, 2006 to our new location in the 12 South Lexington Ave. building. Project location: 32 Broadway Avenue, Asheville, N.C. Completion date:
August, 1997.
